Randy Beardsley

The next presentation for the Halifax Sport Fishing Club seminar series will be on Thursday, February 18, 2010.

This month we are pleased to welcome Randy Beardsley, long time member of the club and an ever present threat at offshore tournaments. Randy is a native of Daytona Beach, FL and has been fishing the waters out of Ponce Inlet for over thirty years. His team fishes the SKA tournament series and has qualified for the National SKA Championship tournament on numerous occasions. Last year, fishing with Donnie Testa and the Salty Marine Team he won the Hogs Breath SKA tournament in Key West, FL. Randy has also won the prestigious Daytona Beach Striker/Fishstock tournament and captained his team for a win in our own Lady Angler tournament. He routinely places at the top of the board at our Annual Offshore Challenge.

This presentation will concentrate on the preparation necessary to routinely be successful at offshore fishing. Rods reels, tackle to target specific species will not only be discussed but reviewed with Randy's own equipment. Planing which species to target first based upon experience, weather, and recent local knowledge will be a highlight. Roffer's ocean temperatures charts are a large part of Randy's planning and these will be discussed at length.

Tournament fisherman or recreational angler, all will benefit from this timely and informative presentation.

This same evening we will be inaugurating our First Annual Swap Meet at the club. Eight foot tables will be available in the foyer for members to display any fishing equipment they may want to sell. The tables will be free for members and $10.00 per table for non-members. No pre-registration is required. The swap meet will be begin at 6:00 PM. The club will be open at 5:30 PM for set-up. Brief business meeting at 6:45 PM, open fishing forum at 7:00 PM, and seminar at 7:30 PM.

March 18

The next presentation for the HSFC Seminar Series will be on Thursday March 18, 2010. This meeting will be a "membership drive". The club will be waiving the $10.00 administrative fee usually charged to new members. There will be free hot dogs from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. Rchard Bramenl at "The Fishin' Shack" on A1A in Daytona Beach Shores is sponsoring this event and will have a table set up with some spring time specials. Be sure to stop in at the "Fishin' Shack" and thank Richard for his support of our club.

                                                                                BAIT RIGGING

We did this style seminar last year for the first time and it was hugely successful. It is being brought back this year by popular demand and expanded upon.

We will feature nine local fisherman in a "round robin" style. Each will have their own table and participants will be able to move from table to table to observe each presentation. The presenters will be using real bait and demonstrate how they specifically rig baits for various species. The relaxed, informal atmosphere makes for a real learning experience.

Attendees will have the opportunity to not only observe but ask specifics of each speaker. The advantage here is each speaker is a well known, and respected top fisherman in our local area.

They are:

Capt. Chris Corbett / Wil Evans                                                Ballyhoo

Capt. Denny Malaki                                                             Inshore Artificial

Andy White                                                                            Wire Rigs

Evan Stein                                                                          Inshore Live Baits

Steve Larson                                                                           Surf Rigs

Mike Buckles                                                                      Ballyhoo / Artificial

Rick Ruebel                                                                       Swordfish / Squid

Danny White                                                                        Bottom Fishing

Timing is everything and this presentation is no exception. Less than a month later is our first offshore tournament of the season. Our "ANNUAL OFFSHORE CHALLENGE" will be a perfect opportunity to put your newly acquired skills to the test.
